New pilot program aims to attract global talent as local shortages persist
Canada has launched a new pilot immigration program designed to fast-track permanent residency for international professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. The initiative, announced by Immigration Minister Marc Miller, will allow eligible applicants to bypass traditional labor market impact assessments (LMIAs).
The new stream is expected to reduce processing time to as little as 4 months, and applicants with advanced degrees or job offers in AI, clean tech, or software engineering will be given top priority.
This move positions Canada to compete with countries like the U.S. and Australia for highly skilled workers.
